Salt Printing

I recently tried out some printing at home using a traditional salt printing method. I created some digital negatives, printed on acetate, and used these to expose fine art paper which I had impregnated with salt and then coated in silver nitrate solution. Development times were established on a trial and error basis; most images were left to develop in full, bright sunshine for between 1-2 minutes. They were then fixed in a sodium thiosulphate solution.

I found the process to be highly tactile and enjoyed being able to engage with the roots of the photographic process. I would like to explore this technique further by working to a larger scale and working without negatives to create some truly cameraless work.
